What do I need to know to schedule an appointment?

You will need to know your LBC username and password, the course you’d like to meet for, whether you would like an online or in-person appointment, and either a 30-or 60-minute appointment.

Can I cancel my appointment?

Yes, visit our scheduling page. and log in to view your upcoming appointments. Simply click on the “X” next to any appointment to cancel it. Please cancel the appointment no less than two hours prior to its designated start time.

Can I reschedule my appointment?

Yes, first cancel your appointment following the steps under the “Can I cancel my appointment?” FAQ; then, schedule another appointment at a convenient time.

How many appointments can I make in a week?

You can have up to three one-on-one appointments for any reason in any given week. This excludes study groups and designated study hours.

Does my professor know if I attended an appointment?

Yes, your professor will automatically be notified of your appointment and given a summary of the visit if you select the correct course upon sign-in.

Your professor may require you to attend a Writing Center appointment for a particular writing assignment. Please note that your professor may designate a progress requirement to be completed before the session. The session will consist of a 30- or 60-minute one-on-one meeting with a peer writing mentor to go over your work.

How many study hours do student-athletes need?

Student-athletes who are required to log hours in the Ally Center may attend study groups, writing or academic mentoring appointments, math lab, or personal study hours totaling a minimum of three hours per week.

What is a required Writing Center appointment?

Your professor may require you to attend a Writing Center appointment for a particular writing assignment. Please note that your professor may designate a progress requirement to be completed before the session. The session will consist of a 30- or 60-minute one-on-one meeting with a peer writing mentor to go over your work.

How do I regain scheduling privileges if I have lost them?

If you have lost your scheduling privileges due to three missed appointments, please contact an Ally Center staff member to discuss regaining scheduling privileges.

Do the Writing Service include Master's and Doctoral Thesis editing?

The Ally Center’s Writing Services provide services for current course work but does not include asynchronous proofreading/editing services, nor do they guarantee assistance with grammar/syntax/

Master’s or doctoral students desiring asynchronous editing services for their course work or dissertation must individually contract with a third-party editor, for which the student will incur separate expenses.

The Ally Center recommends these editors to assist master’s or doctoral students.
